Politics 2021 are no longer Democrat versus Republican. It is now sanity versus insanity, or more particularly Rationality versus cults, conspiracy theories, racists and bigots, white supremacists, emotional and mental disturbances, and/or ignorance, cowardice and craven venality, etc. etc. …causing an epidemic of adjectives among bloggers.
Let’s compare, for example some recent, rational quotes regarding Trump Impeachment #2 from two different Republican Senators, Pat Toomey (N. Carolina) and Richard Burr (Pennsylvania)… and contrast them with a quote from the local chair of the Washington County, Pa., Republican Party
Burr of N. Carolina: “By what he did and by what he did not do, President Trump violated his oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States”.
Toomey of Pa.: “I was one of the 74 million Americans who voted for President Trump, in part because of the many accomplishments of his administration. Unfortunately, his behavior after the election betrayed the confidence millions of us placed in him.
“His betrayal of the Constitution and his oath of office required conviction.”
In contrast, the chair of the local Washington County, Pa., Republican Party subsequently blasted Senator Toomey for voting to convict former President Trump, saying the outgoing senator was not elected to “do the right thing.”
“We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing. We sent him there to represent us.” . So much for the concept of leadership!
Or read below the scathing quotes from the family of Adam Kinzinger, the U.S. Representative from Illinois’s, another Republican and also a distinguished Air Force pilot who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because Adam voted his conscience to convict Donald Trump, Adam’s many family members chose to vilify him in ways that are barely tethered to reality, ways that are legitimately certifiable. But these criticisms are representative of a political environment that is equally unhinged…it is an environment of sane vs insane .
They walk among us.
It is interesting (if not ironic) for me to note that these “unhappy white insurrectionists types” have a sort of oral fixation problem. While they are busy running their mouths at high decibel, full throttle, blood vessel popping, absurdities, they are also capable of simultaneously biting the Biden hand that is feeding them, pausing only to catch a breath so that they can firmly affix their noses and lips in classic “brown nosing” and “ass kissing” fashion to the asses of the Trumpian, waspy, wealthy, elite, Republican, 1 percenters who shit all over them regularly and interminably.
It is the utterly amazing, continuous “shit show” of the last 50 years.
