Culture Denial Circa 2020; A rule of terror is not a heritage to be proud of
“Southern man, better keep your head.
Don’t forget what your good book said.
Southern change gonna come at last.
Now your crosses are burning fast.”
Poor misunderstood Southern folks having their culture denied so wrongly by all of us Northern Johnny come lately, left-leaning, liberal, fake “do-gooders”. All you Southern boys must be really angry what with missing those soft summer breezes that used to blow through the Pines of your plantations while you sipped those smooth mint juleps served by you houseboy or house girl. Waa Waa Waa!. Really now, tearing down all those insulting, statues of racist, slave holding, Confederate Traitors to our country should not be such a bitter pill for you to swallow. These guys, after all, did take up arms against our country because they believed that they were entitled to own other human beings, to be used as slaves, to be used as property with no more respect or dignity than a pair of old shoes to be discarded in the trash when they were no more useful. These “heroes” fought for the right to maintain a profitable lifestyle built upon the broken and dead bodies of human beings who suffered daily for generations under the brutal lash of the murderers, rapists, and sadists these racist Confederate soldiers defended. Their smug smiles preserved in stone are an insult and an affront to each and every African American citizen. Removing their statutes is not culture denial. It is simply trash removal.
You want to know who is really suffering from culture denial. How about our original Native Americans, sometimes known as the Indian Nations? Talk about culture denied. Their culture was extinguished. We have another term for that kind of REAL culture denial or erasure. It is called genocide.
And how about today’s “more uppity than ever” African Americans, who back in the day were kidnapped, stolen, ripped from their homes and lives; and yes torn away from their thriving cultures located way back in the heart of Africa, from where they were dragged to America with barely the clothes on their backs; not even a memento or remnant of any kind as a reminder of their previous lives. And when they got to America, what kind of culture were they able to create? Not much, because all you kind, generous, and genteel southern folk were busy establishing your “heritage” (such a kindly word); your blood drenched, hateful legacy of lives of murder, rape, subjugation and exploitation; far and beyond the bounds of human decency. And would you just not know it, but all of you “current strong Southern right to lifers” come from ancestors who were perversely believers in abortions. That’s right, if Mr. Slave owner did not like that the slave girl he had raped was giving birth to a useless baby girl, he could just throw that extra mouth to feed into the trash until “baby momma” birthed him a more useful baby boy. Southern man could just about abort the whole black community’s lives out from under them even before it could become a culture.
So, if you all want to keep all those “high on their horses” statues of traitorous Johnny Rebs gloriously memorialized, why not make it real with some large bronze signs cemented to the base of each statute, which should read words like: “Here sits Colonel “Kentucky Fried Chicken”, Confederate Coward and Scumbag, best known for raping and murdering and subjugating anybody who he could legally enslave to help him get his sorry ass a little bit ahead of the game, because God knows he and his cohorts couldn’t have done it on their own; without the benefit of free slave labor.”
Then to top it off, you may as well provide some musical accompaniment next to those statutes, like Billie Holiday singing “Strange Fruit” on a continual twenty-four-hour-a-day Loop. A genteel reminder of these Southern luminaries’ manhood.
Now that is the way to put your cultural heritage into proper perspective.
