Equal Justice: A picture of peaceful, young protesters is worth 1000 words.
Poor Donald, so much incoming, especially feedback from John Bolton’s new book, and Donny with so little new ammunition with which to fight back. His entire arsenal is as old and stale as that forgotten, week-old donut stuffed away in his golf bag. It is not as if there are not a ton of constructive new reform projects on which he could comment, to distract and deflect from his problems, it is just that “constructive” is so not his thing. Instead, it looks like we are going to have to endure some more magical thinking about the alternate reality of a “disappearing Covid-19 crisis” until he can figure out some new material to up the amperage on his usual denunciations and wild accusations aimed at his critics. The problem is that his repertoire of lashing out is older and as out of step as retread, old, Henny Youngman one liners, which at least have the value of retaining some humor. And no one has ever accused Donald Trump of having a sense of humor. Meanwhile, the dead bodies keep pile-ing up higher and higher.
It is a shame that we will have to wait until our November election to sweep out the old and bring in the new, in order to start to make the substantial impact toward creating a newer, more just society. But at least we are certain that there will not be another four years of headaches, lies, excuses, tantrums, and incompetence. Instead, there will be adult behavior, decency, and productivity. We know that there will be no Trumpy resignations before November. So, we will wait, and then with a new slate of positive lawmakers and a majority in the Senate, we will show the way.
Just as the best way to eliminate the culture of murderous, racist policing among the 800,000 policemen nationwide, in about 18,000 different jurisdictions will require that we as a nation learn how to delete from the pool of candidates all those persons whose psychological profiles display obvious hateful and vengeful characteristics (to name just a few disqualifying personality traits), we will similarly need to learn how to vet our candidates for elections to all offices of power, from the local to the national level.
We know that our democracy requires people of honor and good conscience to run it, and until we eliminate the corrupt, selfish criminal elements from our pool of candidates we will be stuck with a government that is nothing but the troubled picture we have witnessed for the last 4 years; and to some extent, since 1776. Things will get better when we sweep these unprecedented, horrible GOP enablers out of office, along with Donald and company; at which time the long and hard process of making the systemic changes necessary to bring about a truly just society can begin. You do not have to be overly Pollyana-ish, to realize that the changes to achieve a just society start at the local level, with changes in the hearts of people to become more loving and accepting of each other, in the same way that children who are too young to have been taught in the “schools of hate and discrimination” show a natural love and affection to each other without regard to skin color or cultural differences.
The way to bring these changes to adults will begin by creating new reform federal legislation that will prevent local governments and businesses from creating obstacles, legal and otherwise, against the ability of EVERYONE to have access to lives of dignity, with the security of decent jobs, decent medical care, decent education, clean air and clean water, healthy food and humane policing that truly serves and protects…and many other programs that need addressing which I have overlooked. Federal legislation has in the past opened the door and provided the oversight. We need much more, and now is the time to get it done.

But there is one huge question that will still remain, and I am concerned that the words I choose will be misinterpreted and raise red flags. The question is: “How willing are the supporters of Trumpism to open their minds to a vision of a new and better reality?” We all gain when we work together for a more perfect union. No one has to lose.
It is time for them to open their eyes, roll up their sleeves, and get on board to a new and better future for everyone.
